The Maria Sofia Love Alien Panda Inspired Eye Makeup Tutorial

If you don't know who Maria Sofia Love is, you better Google her or search for her videos on Facebook. I can't really say that I know a lot about her but here's what I got off of her Gandang Gabi Vice interview and her videos:

Maria Sofia Love is...
  • A happy person
  • A person who travels the world
  • A person who believes in always being positive
  • A person who likes to encourage others to also be positive
She's also a little bit flirty (in a good way and you'll see that in most of her videos) and, what I like most about her is, she has a funny way of laughing where she opens her mouth really wide. To add to that, she's a beautiful transgender and a vegetarian (<<. She became viral because of her lines, opinions and "360-modeling" on her videos.

I recently saw her on Gandang Gabi Vice and she was wearing this beautiful gold gown. I also couldn't get my eyes off of her face because her makeup was on point, especially her eyes. I couldn't resist after the video ended, I had to do an eye makeup that's similar to hers.

Finding Inspiration on Facebook

I scoured my entire news feeds for her Facebook profile so I could see closeups of her eye makeup. I couldn't find a good closeup photo but what I did find was this:

Maria Sofia calls it the: Alien Panda look. Yes (she's funny like that). I'm not really sure if this was the look she was wearing on GGV but it's close enough. I didn't copy the same exact look but what I did was my own version.

The Alien Panda Transformation

Disclaimer: This is not a full face tutorial nor is it an exact replication of the look Maria Sofia has on the above photo.

STEP 1:  The Before

I'm wearing my husband's basketball jersey - FYI.
Start with a clean face. This is what I look like without makeup. I kind of look like a boy in this photo but anyway, wipe the excess oil off your face or better yet, wash your face right before you do this look.

STEP 2: Start with the eyes - Lighter colors

I'm doing the eyes first (before foundation and anything else) because I'm going to work with a black eyeshadow later. This means that there's definitely going to be some bits falling off of my brush as soon as the eyeshadow hits my lids so if I already have foundation on, I might find it hard to sweep the fall out off.
  1. Apply a lighter shade of hot pink on your crease.
  2. Take a darker shade of hot pink (maybe one shade darker than the 1st color) and apply it right underneath the lighter pink (see 2nd picture).
  3. Next, apply a purple eyeshadow underneath your lashline.

STEP 3: Finish off the eyes - Applying black

You need to be patient when applying the black because you would really need to blend it out. Take a few short breaths in between the blending if your arm is starting to hurt - I know mine did :)
  1. Take just a little amount of black eyeshadow and use it to trace your crease.
  2. When you have your desired crease line in black, blend it out. Blend upwards towards the pink.
  3. Apply the black on the rest of the areas on your eye. I recommend small strokes with just a tiny amount of black on your brush. As you can see, mine isn't colored totally on the lid (see last picture) but it is smoked out on the crease. This is what you want.

STEP 4: Finish off the eyes - Filling in the gaps

  1. Apply the black on your lower lashline, making sure that you're also doing the same technique as earlier - small strokes, blending as you go. It has to look smokey.
  2. Fill in your lids with the black eyeshadow to intensify the color.
  3. Highlight your brow bone with a white shimmery eyeshadow.
  4. Use the same white shimmery eyeshadow to highlight the inner corners of your eye.
At this point, your eyes should look something like this - very smokey and blended.

STEP 5: Beat the Face up - Brows, Foundation, Concealer, Contour, Bronzer, Mascara, Black eyeliner and Lipstick

Just apply lipstick, mascara, and eye liner the way you usually do. As for my face routine, it should be another topic on its own because I want this tutorial short and simple. That goes the same for my brows too. Instead of the step by step, I'll give you a few tips specific for this look:
  • You want the look to be intense so don't forget to line your lower lashline with the blackest eyeliner you can find.
  • Nude lips work best for intense eye makeup.
  • Don't you just love how contouring and highlighting can make you look thin?
  • I could have gone for a blush instead of a bronzer but I want the attention to mostly be on my eyes.
Products I used: Lipstick - Ever Bilena Matte Lipstick, Mascara - VS Mascara, Eyeliner - Gel liner from the Sexy Smokey VS Palette, Face - SanSan HD Foundation + Fashion21 Pressed Powder with Cucumber Extract + Maybelline Power Concealer + Elf Golden Bronzer + Models Co. Matte Bronzer.

STEP 6:  The After

Wear that beautiful smile of yours and you're done! It took me close to an hour to do this look which is why I skipped on fully contouring my face. The key to this is really blending so you have to be patient. Keep practicing if you didn't get it the first time.

So that's it, that's the Alien Panda look (my version) inspired by a photo of Maria Sofia Love. You can wear this look when you go out, that's if you're daring enough to do so. I live in Bacolod City so I might not have the chance to wear this look often. Whatever the case, I love the smoke and the hints of color showing underneath.
